Wayback Machine: April 2023 wrap-up

April was the month busy began. And wouldn’t you know, it started off with busyness at home and was made complete with two travel races and two trips to Tyler.

We’d started installing a new backyard landscape in early 2021. That project went on hold when we took over care for Johnnie. Hard to believe it took us two years to get back to it! There’s nothing like a giant load of compost delivered to the driveway to kick off a ton of physical labor.

The best part of the project was plant shopping!

Although it felt like we bought a lot, we actually just picked up a few things to see what would survive a summer. Our plan is to do a major overplanting of varieties we liked in spring 2024.

We kicked off a new 5k training program with Fleet Feet to prepare runners for Global Running Day (early June). We had a terrific sign up!

Time for another race! We headed to the east coast for our first-ever visit to Delaware. The beaches are just incredible!

Race day was warm, making for a challenging run. Even so, it was fun and the scenery was great.

Not long after we returned home, Mary Love passed away. Family reunions are going to be very different without her encyclopedic knowledge of family history.

After getting back home from Tyler, we left again for a travel marathon in Illinois. Kelly had already run Chicago, but I hadn’t gotten the state for myself yet. Several of our friends came to run the state, too, making it a very fun trip.

We ended the month with a trip back to Tyler to celebrate Tammy’s milestone birthday.
