Galloway End of Season 2018 | Time for a Change

For as long as I’ve been involved with Dallas Galloway – a decade now – we’ve had our end of season party in early January.

Last year it occurred to me that a January party is a lot of work. Many of our runners do three major January races, on three separate weekends. Plus there’s the whole New Years’ holiday to contend with. No matter how we plan, we miss runners because of races. We also have the added challenge of being several weeks away from the actual end of our season in early December.

So this year, I asked around and found there would be support for a totally different type of end of season party. Instead of a nighttime dinner in January, I put together a regular Saturday morning run the weekend after our season ended in December, followed by breakfast tacos and coffee at a favorite running community location on our training route.

The result? Everyone loved it. The cost was cheaper for everyone, they planned to run anyway, and it was easy. Plus it was early enough in the day to not interfere with other holiday activities.

Plus we had the most fun season wrap-up game ever.

As well as silly awards and serious medals.

We’re definitely doing this again! Both leading Dallas Galloway and holding a December end of season morning party, that is.
