2024 Word of the Year: Accomplish

I don’t know everything that 2024 will hold, but I’m fairly certain of one thing: We are on track to accomplish some long-term goals.

By June my professional organization should complete a Body of Knowledge project, allowing government communicators to have a defined list of knowledge categories required to do our work.

By June I should also complete the year+ Texas Public Manager certification program, allowing me to use “CPM” after my name.

By mid-October Kelly and I should complete our #50by55 running goal, checking off a half marathon (me) and a full marathon (him) in all 50 states. This will also mean we’ve visited all 50 states together as a married couple.

By mid-October Kelly should have run 100 marathons. Pretty incredible since he ran his first marathon in 2001, his second in 2002 and then took a 6-year break before coming back to the sport.

By mid-October I should have run 75 half-marathons. I won’t even start talking about how incredible this is for a woman who ran her first-ever 5k in 2008.

In June, Kelly and I will begin our 10th season as Dallas Galloway (now known as Interval Run Club Dallas) program directors, making us the longest-serving directors in the program’s history.

Whatever happens beyond these BIG things will feel wonderful. And if nothing beyond these BIG things happens, well…that will feel wonderful as well.

Mountain range, full of greens and blues, taken along the Foothill Parkway through the Great Smoky Mountains. The word "Accomplish" is overlayed in the sky.

This is one of my favorite photos of the Great Smoky Mountains. Kelly and I took this picture during a drive along the Foothills Parkway when we took Glory on her first roadtrip with us in 2019.
