November 2023 wrap-up

Some months you’ve had enough. November was that month for me and, fortunately, it marked the beginning of a period of slowing down.

Evan and I attended the TATOA Awards ceremony where we picked up three awards for his team’s work in 2023. The venue (in Deep Ellum) was wild!

We had our first booth at Touch-a-Truck – the same day as our first-ever booth at the Senior Community Resource Fair. It made for a very full Saturday of outreach to our community.

I was thrilled to see that the final required FEMA training course was finally offered. It’s an in-person class and I’d been waiting for nearly three years for it to come back. I’m now done with required classes until the requirements change! (I didn’t take a photo, but I picked up one other last required class in September, right before heading to ICMA.)

I was happy to attend the DFW India Chamber of Commerce dinner with colleagues on my way home from FEMA classes.

Jeff Galloway came to Dallas for the first time in nearly eight years! We organized a group meet up, which I had to miss because of a work trip.

While Kelly was hanging out with runners and Jeff, I went to the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland for the Integrated Emergency Management Course with our city leadership. It was an intense four-day class, requiring us to be away from home for six days/five nights.

While I was in Maryland, Kelly texted to say it was time to replace the HVAC. Fortunately the project was finished by the time I got home.

Fall finally arrived in DFW and it made backyard rest very enjoyable.

November means the holiday season is here and I’d no sooner unpacked from FEMA than I was at Lights at Legacy for a Sunday afternoon/evening of community outreach.

We had a houseguest for Thanksgiving! Glory’s friend Magic spent three days with us while his family was traveling. There was much playing and, after he went home, much sleeping.

The Plano Turkey Trot is really growing! From a race drawing just a few hundred when we first ran it to nearly 2,000 this year, it’s the perfect way for us to kick off our Thanksgiving break. It’s even more fun to run it with friends.

We met up with the Fort Worth side of our family for a night out at Medieval Times.

My team debuted our new light-up inflatable Love Plano heart at the annual Team Plano holiday luncheon. SO MUCH FUN!

Kelly and I enjoyed the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Forest walking trail experience. It was a lot of fun over the course of an hour (slightly plus) of walking in the woods.
