2022 Word of the Year: Refocused

At this point, it feels crazy to guess what a year may bring. Thank you 2020 and 2021 for teaching me that.

But I believe I still have agency in life, over my choices, priorities and emotions. With that in mind, no matter what 2022 may bring, I choose to be Refocused.

I want to refocus my work, leaning into the definition of “changing priorities and concentrating on something different from before.”

  • After two unpredictable years, it’s time for our team to move from reacting and adapting to prioritizing and evolving.
  • We’re getting back to basics in some areas, because you can only survive in make-do for so long before chaos takes over.
  • We’re adding a key staff member this year, allowing our team and our work to grow in new and interesting ways.
  • It’s also time to say goodbye to some very good things in favor of saying hello to some even better things.

I want to refocus my life, leaning into the definition of “focusing anew.”

  • Getting back to races last year was so much fun! This is a priority for 2022.
  • We purchased a Peloton last year and I want to figure out what fitness rhythm and routine works best for me as I battle the impact of aging on my body and health.
  • Glory Be still needs to master basic leash and greeting manners. This year will be her year!
  • Faith is important to us. We long to be back and part of community.

This year will see us working through the process of closing two family estates. Not easy, not fun and time-consuming. But it must be done. Once finalized, we’ll be able to refocus on our own lives.

We’ve learned many times over in the last two years that change is inevitable. This year, we are refocusing on what is good and right:

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. – Philippians 4:8
