Master Bedroom Reveal

Finally. After replacing the floors, rebuilding the closet, finding a new area rug, repainting, hanging new curtains and rehanging artwork, the master bedroom is finally DONE.

The bed is now on our east wall, which meant our old gallery wall had to go and I needed to rethink all of the artwork placement.

I also picked up bedside lamps (hooray! and a game changer for evening lighting) and a new cozy lightweight sweater-style bed blanket. Neutral pillowcases match the box springs fitted sheet, and a fun embroidered pillow ties it all together.

The rug is perfect and ties everything together and the white curtains are the perfect neutral for the room. I hung blackout liners as well and the room is delightfully dark when we go to sleep.

The star of the bedroom is the new master closet. We ripped out the brass-framed sliding mirror closet doors, built a half wall and hung a custom-designed barn door. The color makes the barn door its own piece of artwork. And my Grandpa Alloway’s little red cupboard makes me happy sitting in what would otherwise be an unused space.

We later moved that rug into the master closet and replaced it with a small sisal mat. The new mat is perfect for naughty cats who like to stretch their claws, and as a 2×3 rug, it fits perfectly under the cupboard.

Here’s the rug now living in the master closet. We invested in custom Elfa shelving and it has changed our world. Our formerly crowded closet now has unused storage capacity. It’s fantastic!!

I built my own jewelry wall organizer with Ikea mix-and-match pieces. It’s now easy to find necklaces and bangles. As a bonus, it’s tough for cats to find and play with them. The new closet design has ample space for art surprises, which makes me happy.

And happiest of all: I still get to look at my favorite Steve Uriegas print when I wake up in the morning.
