Safe and Easy Running Trail in Downtown Denver

Just because I’m go out of town doesn’t mean I’m off the hook for weekday runs – especially during training season.

Two weeks ago I was in Denver for a conference. I found a great (read: no traffic and safe) nearly 10-mile trail in downtown Denver – the Cherry Creek Trail. There are two sides to the trail, one for bikes and pedestrians, the other for pedestrians only.

There are multiple access ramps to the trail. The trail itself is mostly flat and runs along the creek.

Although I said the trail was safe, I still wouldn’t recommend running this in the dark. My first day I hit the trail just before daybreak. There are homeless (mostly harmless homeless) camped under the bridges, so it wasn’t the safest decision I could have made. I made sure to go out after sunrise for my next run.

The benefit of running in the daylight means you can enjoy the public art along the trail, as well as the ducks and mini-waterfalls.

This – hands-down – was my favorite mural!
