Learning What You Don’t Know

If you’re thinking you’re on top of everything in life, I suggest you change jobs.

Then you’ll learn that you’re on top of very little in life. Over the course of my first two weeks at work, I’ve learned that I don’t know how to:

  • Print
  • Do an expense report
  • Navigate the Dallas public transportation system
  • Scan documents
  • Put a letter on letterhead

It’s humbling.

Reminds me of a suggestion from my supervising teacher when I was a Teaching Assistent in German at UW-Madison. He said it is a good idea for a language teacher to try learning another language every few years in order to keep in the forefront of your mind what your students are going through. It humbles you.

  2. That's very good advice!
