Wednesday Musings

  1. The Boy and I met Hal Holbrook last night. He’s charming, witty and has lovely soft hands. I can’t wait to curl up with his autobiography.
  2. We’ve been watching Mad Men on Netflix. The costumes and sets are gorgeous, but the show is depressing. Hopeless, desperate, lonely people. After 20 episodes, we’ve given up. I guess I’m old enough to want some pleasant escapism in tv. Life can be difficult enough without having to experience it through entertainment media as well.
  3. I love Home Goods. After weeks of searching on line and in person for the perfect duvet cover, I found just what I wanted at Home Goods – and for less than $35.
  4. In one week, I went from winning Words With Friends games against my mom to being totally destroyed by her. She’s having a great time. Me? Hmmm…
  5. Fall/winter is on the way here in Texas. How do I know, with temps still in the upper 80s? Ben has stopped stalking my lap and snuggling with me at night in favor of his dad, The Boy.
  6. We taught friends how to play a Hayley Family game, Wahoo, last Friday night and learned an important lesson. The competitive person isn’t your greatest threat: the quiet contemplative player is.
  7. Even though The Boy’s first love, Old Glory (his classic pick-up) isn’t in the best of shape these days, she still has an undeniable appeal to other men. The Boy drove her to work yesterday and found a note asking if he’d be willing to sell stuck under her wiper blade. I knew when I married The boy that I was marrying Old Glory, too. Apparently, love for classic trucks is a near-universal male trait.
