Tuning Out

Yesterday was very busy.

Just typing that makes me laugh a little. I mean, really, every day is very busy. The only difference from Monday to Thursday is whether:
  • I have a deadline or
  • I need to prepare for the next deadline.
When I’m truly busy, I try to make sure that everyone knows to leave me alone. I love my coworkers, really I do. I just don’t want to talk to anyone when I really ought to concentrate on work – tedious as whatever duty on my plate may be.

I have two never-fail Tune Out strategies.

1. Plug in the iPod. Tune in, tune out, enough said.

2. Switch on my You Do Not Exist Force Field. When active, I neither see you nor hear you. I do not have to respond to dumb jokes, ridiculous requests, spilled coffee grounds, paper jams, random email messages, sales calls or parking space dilemmas. It’s wonderful.

… unless they happen to be spilled on your foot.

  2. That's where my yoga classes come into practice.
