A Furry Scarf

I have been dealing with an upset tummy and off-and-on (currently on) headaches for a few days. You just have to love springtime in Texas!

Sunday I spent the better part of the morning on the sofa, trying to rest and banish my headache. Animals, using their FSP (Fur-Sensory Perception), always know when you aren’t feeling well and do their level-best to help you recover.

While Daddy was at church, it was just the fur-babies and I at home. The little girl, Bridget, appointed herself as my get-well ambassador for the day.

Sunday started off a touch chilly. I’d covered myself with an afghan my aunt crocheted for me over 15 years ago. It’s the perfect throw when you feel cold and need to snuggle.

Unfortunately, Bridget just isn’t sure about this afghan. I don’t know if it’s hard for her to see the colors, of if the spaces in the stitches are uncomfortable, or if the problem is some entirely unknown kitty mystery.

But I was ill, and she was determined to make recovery efforts – afghan or not.

She put her front paws on my lap, keeping the back paws on the sofa. Slowly she kneaded my belly, letting go of the afghan in disgust. I could almost hear her thinking:

Purr…Knead…Ick!
Purr…Knead…Maybe I can make it work.
Purr…Knead…Uncomfortable!
Purr…Knead…Mommy needs me!
Slowly she put a back paw on my stomach, and paused with her remaining back leg extended, much like a gymnast performing an exercise on the high beam. I suppose it was just too much, so she slowly maneuvered, keeping the back leg off of the afghan, until both back legs were resting on my neck.
Down, down, down, she went. First sitting, then resting her belly, then finally laying her head on her front paws – complete kitty-on-person restorative contact.
As for me, it looked like I was wearing a furry scarf. All cat on my neck and chest, afghan covering the rest of me. Not exactly comfortable, but not exactly awkward, either.
The ability to lie in gracefully in awkward positions is a gift God gives kitties!
