Bringing Order to Bookshelf Chaos

Just like people have happy weights, I think our house has a happy number of books. No matter how many times I purge our (four) bookshelves, donating hard copies of books we now own electronically to the Friends of the Plano Public Library sale, I seem to have just as many books at home.

This isn’t even taking my overstuffed work bookshelf into account.

I love books. It’s ok. I’m not even ashamed of how many we have.

But I was ashamed of the hot mess state of the shelves – random stacks just made them look like like an afterthought. As part of our family room redecorating project I decided to move them to a new location. Fortunately, Kelly helped. And I used the emptying and moving of the shelves as an opportunity to organize and spruce up.

A few plants, family memories and art, plus more artful stacking of the books, goes a long way to making our bookshelves a point of pride.

  1. Books have always been a weakness of mine, and I’ll readily admit I have too many and hold on to them for too long…probably purchased with good intentions but have way more than I’ll realistically read. ~sigh~ Your shelves look lovely. Maybe I’m inspired to do something with mine.

Books become part of the family, I think. I have emotions and experiences tied into every one – where I bought them, when I bought them, how I felt while reading them. How do you get rid of those? Sigh.
