This was such an easy thing to make and yet so very meaningful for me and my mom and sisters.
I found the how-to on Spoonflower’s blog – Spoonflower prints your designs on material, which is a great way to create something totally unique.
In my case, I have a collection of hand-written recipes from my Grandma Alloway. I thought it would be fun to give us all a tea towel with a mutually beloved dish: Sunshine Salad.
Simply scan in the recipe and resize in photo editing software to fit 4 panels of a yard of fabric. I selected the background color. Upload to Spoonflower, select your material (they recommended linen) and wait for it to arrive at your house.
I cut each panel – I may have to invest in a rotary cutter because it would have made this much faster.
Use your iron to hem – the colored fabric creates the same look as bias tape. Again, such a simple way to finish a project!
Then, stitch down.
That’s it! They look fantastic and now we’ll always remember our favorite Sunshine Salad (not that any of us need the recipe any more to make it).
