With our well-known love for bourbon, it’s no surprise to share that Kelly was skeptical of my plans for us to tour the Jack Daniels Distillery.
But I figured we were in the area with nothing much to do while we waited for a concert, so why not?
Spoiler alert: We both loved it.
We opted for the Angel’s Share tour, which allowed us to taste the premium products. Pro tip: This is almost always the better choice unless you simple like mass-market products.
Tennessee whiskey is known for straining the whiskey through sugar maple charcoal (in Jack Daniels’ case, made on site) before putting in barrels.
The tour took us through the entire property – we got to see the underground spring providing water for the distillery.
We also saw Jack’s original desk! We didn’t know he never had children and passed the distillery down to other relatives.
The tasting room was beautiful!
And it doesn’t always happen – but we brought home THREE bottles. Successful trip indeed.
By the way, Lynchburg, Tennessee – for as famous as it is – is a tiny town. It’s pretty much the distillery and a small town square, plus local farms.
We found it utterly charming.
