Midway through 2018 I had the opportunity to connect with the Dallas-Fort Worth Facebook Community Leadership Circle. Comprised of page and group administrators, this is a dynamic group with a whole range of experiences. It’s been very fun learning from their challenges and successes, as well as sharing my own from both a work and a passion project perspective.
One particular challenge we face at work is building community online with the constraints imposed as a governmental organization. We are very limited in how we moderate our social channels because of freedom of speech guidelines. Yet we’ve found it is possible and have built a healthy, active and passionate online community.
I had the opportunity share our experiences and lessons learned with Facebook CLC DFW.
Much to my surprise, my topic really resonated with the group. They named me keynote speaker of the year!
Lesson learned: Don’t assume your experience is basic or common sense. As well, always be willing to give advice if asked. You never know who you may be helping or how you may be helping.
