We’ve really run a lot of races in the last decade plus. I know this because our medal collection was way out of hand. Boxes and boxes of medals. 5ks, 5 milers, Half Marathons and Marathons.
Tons.
At every running expo, there are lots of vendors selling cute stylish display racks. But those were pricey and held only a few medals. And as I just said, we have tons.
So I did what any reasonable person would do: I browsed Pinterest for ideas on how to display our medals.
A few hours later, I had a plan. I just needed to stock up on some simple curtain rods. (Spoiler alert: I needed to buy far more than I originally thought.)
Then it was a matter of determining how many medals each rod could realistically hold (20) and creating the overall display. I hung two additional rods for “room to grow.” After all, we’ll have 4 more medals in hand before the end of January.
There was no way to display all of our medals. I opted to keep 5k, 5-miler and 15k medals boxed away and we still have 103 medals on display.
I hung a few framed items – Kelly’s first marathon photo and medal, bibs signed by Meb and Kelly’s completed Cowtown Marathon series. I also installed a shelf for heavy medals and Kelly’s prize awards.
I’m really happy with how it turned out!
