This is officially one of my favorite one-hour gifts to make. It really couldn’t be easier. To make a cozy baby blanket, all you need is:
- Two yards material (I like to do one yard of flannel and one yard cotton), cut into one yard pieces
- Satin binding
- Light loft batting
That’s it! Simply sandwich the batting between the two yards of material with the material facing right sides out. Sew around the edges. If the flannel is a cheater pattern – that is, looks like a quilt, but it printed – sew along the print lines to create quilt-like blocks. Pin the binding around the edge (instant finish!), mitering the corners. Use a zigzag stitch to sew the binding in place. That’s it! A one-hour present that looks like a million bucks.
Ive probably made over a hundred of those over the years and of course, Kelly’s favorite red while and blue quilt he can’t seem to get rid of. Lol! I used to make little “church” diaper bags to match. The moms loved them because they were just right to hold a few diapers and some wipes and maybe a couple of bottles for that one or two our nursery stay. I got requests for them.
