Running Las Vegas

Marathon 56 for Kelly was in Las Vegas. Neither of us had ever gone before (no desire really), but knowing the Rock N Roll series would close the Strip for the race made it appealing.

Our two days in town were enough for us. We hit a lot of historic highlights and did a ton of walking. Las Vegas – at least the Strip area – is neon, music, busyness and sensory overload.

Take for example a diner – The Peppermill. Bar meets diner meets neon and velvet. Yummy and crazy.

My favorite thing in Vegas was the Bellagio foundations. They were so beautiful!!

The neon was beautiful – made the city look much better.

We kicked off race day with a visit to the Graceland Wedding Chapel to renew our vows.

BECAUSE IF ELVIS DOESN’T WALK YOU THROUGH YOUR VOWS, ARE YOU EVEN REALLY MARRIED?!?

We walked nearly 4 miles back to our hotel so Kelly could get in extra miles before his race. It let us see great sites like the Stratosphere.

And the Pawn Star’s pawn shop.

The race took us back along the same path to downtown Las Vegas and back.

The race was huge – some 30,000 people running the half and full.

Because it was free and fun, we decided to do the Run Thru Wedding and renew our vows for a second time. Yes, on the same day.

I didn’t know I wanted to say I Do in the middle of a race, but I did. So we did!

Running the Strip was much more fun than walking it. Dodging runners is easier than dodging drunk half-crazy tourists and buskers.

The neon was out of control.

Another run done! It was our first and last time (likely) to Vegas, and our first nighttime race.
