I love this idea from our church. Instead of mailing Christmas cards to fellow church members, we were encouraged to drop them off (unpostmarked) at church and donate the money we would have spent on postage to the church’s mission collection.
It was so easy! There was a basket for the cards and a locked deposit box for the money donation.
As a result, I wrote cards to people I probably wouldn’t have sent cards to (we are still relatively new church members) and we definitely received cards from people we probably wouldn’t have otherwise. It was a terrific way to encourage community building while also raining money for missions.
And if you aren’t a person of faith, you could implement this same idea and use it to raise money for a cause special to you and your community.
