Exhaustion. Complete and total exhaustion.
I’d say exhaustion characterized most of 2005, fall 2007 and late 2011 through early 2013 for me.
Notably, those same time frames saw a lot of change in our lives. Personal, spiritual and professional struggles (spring 2005), deciding to move back to the States (summer 2005), adjusting back to the States (fall 2005), changing jobs (fall 2007), and changing jobs again – both of us – plus family struggles, spiritual disappointments, church changes and…and that’s enough to list or I’ll feel exhausted all over again.
Here’s the deal. Change takes our focus and attention. 100% of it. There’s no energy left to deal with anything else and, as we all know, simply living life – and living it marginally well – requires energy.
What you’re left with is life on autopilot, going through the motions until things resume some sort of new normal.
