We took advantage of a weekday off after our return from Belize to stop in the Dallas Farmer’s Market for fresh tomatoes and lunch at Pecan Lodge.
Pecan Lodge is in the top four of the Top 50 BBQ Joints in Texas, as ranked by Texas Monthly magazine. It’s also an impossible wait (and hope you get some0 experience … much better to try on a weekday day-off than on the weekend.
This was the line at 10:15 a.m. Pecan Lodge opens at 11 a.m. |
A very happy sight after an hour-and-a-half wait: They are still serving food! |
And even better…they are only sold out of ribs. |
The Boy had beans, jalapeno sausage and brisket.
I had okra, the original sausage and brisket.
It was all delicious. The meat was wonderfully smoked, rich and flavorful. The brisket had a thick peppery crust that was too strong to eat on its own, but perfectly seasoned each bite of meat.
To be honest, this is some of the best BBQ I’ve ever eaten. It’s too rich to eat frequently, but for a now-and-then treat, it’s worth the wait.
PS – City of Dallas and new Farmer’s Market ownership, please don’t let Pecan Lodge relocate! It adds so much to this part of the city.
