Making It Fit – Size and Budget

Ah, February in Texas! Swimsuits in the stores, 65-70F days, all winter items on clearance.

This, my friends, is why I moved here in 1997.

I was pretty excited to find this waiting on me when I got home from work last week:

Since my great get-in-shape mission of 2012, I’ve had to deal with lingering stashes of ill-fitting clothing. Especially things like this winter coat (purchased in the early 1990s while living in an extremely cold climate) that is precisely two sizes larger than my current size:

Can’t tell how big it is, even with my arms askew to show its size? Fine…here I am wrapping my coat around me – I could fit one-and-a-half of me inside it.

Now coats like this are designed to be slightly big, accommodating the 30 layers of clothing that you need to wear underneath to avoid frostbite. But one-and-a-half times your size is too big.

Enter February and 50% off all winter items.

50% off a boiled wool winter coat? Yes, please. Click…ship…and a new winter coat is mine:

It’s just pathetic that I had to put getting a new winter coat on my 101 list to actually get it done.

I suppose that’s what happens when you live in Texas and only wear a winter coat 3-4 times a year.
