I thought it might be helpful to have a list of things that brought me joy – you know, for the times that I’m feeling joy-deprived.
Here’s what I came up with:
- The Boy’s jokes
- Bridget’s sweet face
- The way Ben crawls on my lap while I’m sitting at the computer
- The smell of fresh cut grass
- The first blooms in spring
- The colors of fall leaves
- Catching the first snowflakes of winter
- Rainbows
- Freshly washed baby smell
- Having my feet rubbed
- A great run
- The smell of spring
- New shoes
- Putting on jammies after being in work clothes
- Bubble baths
- Looking at mountains
- Red tailed hawks
- The smell of the annual Kansas prairie burns
- Birds on our bird feeder
- The way Bridget follows me through the house
- Time spent visiting with my Grandma
- Spending time with my mom, dad and sisters
- Spending time with my close friends
- The naughtiness of my best friends
- Christmas lights
- A warm shower on a cold morning
- The first bird chirps in the morning
- Sunrises
- Sunsets – especially the ones in Kansas and in Kenya
- Springfield, MO’s dogwood trees in bloom
- Washington, DC’s cherry trees in bloom
- When Ben or Bridget pout (because it’s so darn cute)
- Watching The Princess Bride
- Geoff Moore and The Distance’s Good to Be Alive
- Toto’s Africa
- The Boy’s ability to name nearly any song that we own (1000s) within a few bars of the opening
- Rainy days while I’m in my pajamas
- Sunny, but not hot days, while I’m dozing in the shade
- The sound of ocean waves
- Just chatting emails from long-lost friends
- Having coffee or lunch, just for fun
- A gentle breeze
- Hiking
- Reading a great book
- Eating my lunch outside
- Catching all of the stoplights “just right”
- When someone holds the door open for me
- Finding a geocache
- Listening to a piece of orchestra music that’s so beautiful that it makes me cry
- Clean sheets
