The House Is Turning Against Us

It wasn’t the greatest of evenings around the Hayley House last night.

The problem is, quite simply, The House. It’s wasn’t friendly towards us at all yesterday.

How can a house treat you poorly, you might wonder? I offer the following as evidence:

  • The toaster flambeed The Niece’s breakfast.
  • The oven shut off – twice – in the middle of cooking dinner.
  • The microwave stopped in mid-timing countdown.
  • The sprinklers hosed me down – twice, while I was trying to move them. (Ok, perhaps the last was simple user error. But it certainly felt like lemon juice in a paper cut at the time!)

The entire experience of simply trying to perform normal tasks at the end of the workday left me more exhausted after one hour than a full nine hours at the office did.

Dear Hayley House,

Please be nice to me! I’ve painted you and pulled your weeds. I’ve scrubbed your tiles, given you a face lift (and honey, let’s be honest: you needed it) and I think about you all the time. You are my favorite house!
xoxo, Shannah

    Toaster, oven, microwave? Is there an electrical current problem?

  2. Toaster=user error

    Oven=faulty circuit board that we've been nursing along for a year now.

    Microwave=user misunderstanding

    All appliances=very frustrating!!
