A friend asked the other day:
Ah…I was happy to given her an explanation and thought that perhaps, I owed one to all of you as well.
You see, I write this blog. True enough, a lot of The Boy’s humor makes it way into my postings. But I respect the fact that The Boy has a life outside my blog and he might not want to have his name plastered everywhere.
(It’s the same for The Niece. She’s our niece and she willingly moved in with us – but she certainly didn’t ask for her name to appear in my posts.)
As well, The Boy has a gender-neutral name and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time explaining that “Kelly” was a boy and my husband. Nor did I want to necessarily give the wrong impression about my relationship simply because of his name.
When we’re together, I don’t call The Boy, ummmm, The Boy. I actually call him “Love.” As in, “I love you but I’m too lazy to say I love you all the time.”
But saying “Love” on my blog seems a bit intimate. So, I opted for another shorthand nickname, The Boy. It’s short for a frequent phrase around our house:
What does The Boy call you on his blog….or does he blog.
The Boy says: "I don't blog."
He prefers to treat me as his oracle. 🙂
