Time for an update on several of the continuing mini-Hayley Home Improvements! After all, we did have a weekend to work on things…and there’s a rapidly-approaching party that’s lit a fire under us to get some things done.
The Living Room Ceiling Fan
Remember the poor Boy using my makeup compact to read the fan unit model number?
We needed the model number to order a new switch housing cap and plug, allowing us to remove the light fixture. The fixture was in bad shape, made the room feel small and (just between you and me) looked a little like a giant claw hanging from the ceiling.
After reading the model number backwards – twice – causing general confusion for the Hunter Fan Company, we finally called with the correct number in hand. We then learned that our fan is no longer produced in its current paint color. The helpful rep tracked down a closely matching color and, since the cost for the parts was less than $3, sent us the replacements we needed gratis.
Our handy friend John pulled everything apart and, because we asked nicely, put it all back together as well. The finished product looks much better! It’s amazing how much taller the ceiling appears in the room without the giant claw:
The Great Window Treatment Debate
We really appreciated everyone’s suggestions regarding my design dilemma. We were trying to figure out the best window treatment solution. The Hayley House features an open plan, with the breakfast area-kitchen-living room existing in the same large space.
I decided to be budget-minded and reuse curtains that I already had from the old Hayley apartment. I found wonderful burnished curtain rods. I hung these in the living room and breakfast room, then used my existing unlined chocolate curtains to frame the windows.
NIce!
