Have you ever noticed that as people age, they begin to eat strange foods? Diet this, low-fat that, high fiber, low salt, organic, vegetarian, and on it goes.
Last week while Kelly was out, I stopped in at my local Sprouts to pick up, well, sprouts. I also grabbed fruit, veg and pita for the week. In the checkout line, the clerk looked at my container of spicy sprouts and said:
I have no idea how to use these.
I waxed poetic about the joys of sprouts on salads, wraps, omelets and the like, paid and headed home.
Today, I was back to the market picking up a full complement of food for the Hayley household. While ringing up my purchases, the clerk at Kroger looked at my frozen bag of mango pulp and said:
What on earth is this?
I explained how helpful pulp is when making morning smoothies. Then I watched the rest of my purchases go by on the belt:
-
Rice cakes
-
Plain animal crackers
-
Greek low-fat yogurt
-
V-8 juice
-
High-fiber oatmeal bars
-
Flaxseed oil
It’s official. I’m an old person eating strange foods!
I luff animal crackers.
Me, too! And 13 crackers are only 100 calories…a perfect work snack.
I eat rice cakes at my 15 min breaks. I get those quaker 90 calorie boxes. 🙂
Also, I didn’t feel old until I went to the zoo and saw the Jr. Zookeepers … THEN I felt REALLY old.
