The Brutal Reality of Life Post-College

Ah, the wonderful dreams I had in college. Work that inspired me daily. Time to pursue hobbies. Regular work hours. Work that would stay at work when I went home.

Ha.

Better make that a double ha.

I realized fairly quickly post-college that I had a great job, but I didn’t have quite as much free time as I would have liked. Gone were the random vacations – spring break, fall break, every former president’s birthday. Into the void arrived “2 weeks paid vacation , 9 official company holidays and 5 days sick leave.”

Wow. No one told me about that!

No one told me about the difference between being exempt and non-exempt status. Little did I know that the working world would give me a pay check, but it would also give me deadlines that couldn’t be pardoned with a well-worded excuse.

I say all of that because tonight is one of “those” nights. Honestly, it’s been one of those months. A deadline every other day, it feels like. And as for me, well I just feel tired.

The moral of the story for those in college is:

Nothing worthwhile in life is ever free.
And nothing worthwhile ever comes easy.
