It’s marathon training time…again. Marathon Man’s next challenge is the Cowtown Marathon on February 28th.
As for me, I’m debating 5k vs 10k. It’s likely that my base nature (laziness) will dictate my running ambitions (ah, 5k it is!).
Marathon Man is trying to defeat his nemesis: the 4 hour mark. During his 22-mile training run on Saturday, he told me:
This is It.
If I can’t break 4 hours during this race, then I’m quitting.
There’s no point in torturing myself only to fail again.
I was really thinking, “Yeah, right.” After all, I have heard this before. But still I know that this is very frustrating and he is, in fact, pushing his body hard in pursuit of a this time goal.
Yesterday, when we walked home from church (yes, we are crazy Americans that – gasp – walk places that are more than a parking lot away!), the training run came back to bite Marathon Man in the hamstring (what did you think I would say?!).
Kelly: My legs are sore.
Me: I’m sorry!
Kelly: My legs are really sore.
Me: I’m really sorry.
Kelly (slight grin): My legs are so.sore.
Me: I’m so.sorry.
Poor guy!
I think he needs extra encouragement from us all. Remember Marathon Man on February 28th and pray heartily that he can conquer the 4 hour mark.
Really, the guy will be running his 3rd marathon in 4 months. He deserves to break 4 hours, don’t you think?
my thoughts will be with you in the morning. That will be a busy day. You two running, Jeremy probably working, Adella’s HUGE party in the afternoon/evening!
It will be a busy day for sure!
