Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to catch up with an old friend whom I hadn’t seen or talked to in nearly a decade. While technically watching a basketball game (go Dallas Mavericks!), in reality, we spent the better part of five hours talking non-stop.
- “Do you remember…”
- “Gosh that was fun…”
- “We first met at…”
- “And then you moved to….”
- “I never understood why…”
Sometimes I marvel at how fast life moves, pushing friends and family apart. But in the course of a couple of hours, bonds reform and it is as though nothing much has changed. As my friend last night said, “It’s been 10 years, but for me it is like it was still yesterday.”
Maybe that’s just a little blessing that God has specifically set aside for us: A place in our hearts that holds on to memories, conversations and relationships. All it takes is a bit of time, and a little stirring, to bring it all back to the surface.
