It seems that I’ve had deadline after deadline for writing projects over the last two months. It’s made me face an internal challenge.
My problem isn’t that I don’t like to write – my problem is that I don’t like to write on a deadline, and I can’t write without a deadline.
Many days have been filled with this routine: sitting at the computer and fretting about what I need to write, how long I need to write, wondering why I can’t write, walking around hoping to write, checking the internet for inspiration to write…
This hardly helps me get things done in a timely manner, let alone proof-read.
My solution to writer’s block-inducing deadline dread (aka – procrastination) is to concentrate on my writing sweet spot. Just as we all have certain abilities and talents where we shine, we all have certain times of day where things just seem easier.
It’s your sweet spot.
I can write for two solid hours, from 3-5 and produce great stuff – it’s better than wasting most of a day trying to put together an outline.
