I can’t even remember when I realized that an original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut has 200 calories. I know that it was at some point during our sojourn in the U.K. I’m not even a die-hard Krispy Kreme fan, but we always made a point to stop at the stand in Harrod’s when we were in London and we were overjoyed when a shop opened inside the Tesco in Watford – a quick 20 minute drive from our house.
Sometimes you crave the most bizarre things when you can’t have them. When I lived in Kenya, I had dreams about Pop-Tarts. Go figure.
Not long after realizing the horrific calorie content of one Krispy Kreme – and a plain original glazed one at that – and knowing that to lose one pound of fat, you must burn 3500 calories, I established The Krispy Kreme Rule.
It’s quite simple, really. Any aerobic exercise, even on a light workout day, must burn 200 calories, the equivalent of a Krispy Kreme doughnut.
I’m a visual person and I like to have clear, achievable goals (remember my love for crossing off list items!). While I eat a doughnut maybe once a quarter, and a Krispy Kreme maybe once a year, there’s still nothing like working out and thinking to yourself “Wow! There goes another Krispy Kreme doughnut!!”
