Change Isn’t Always a Choice

I’d like to say that we undergo change when we observe that we need to undergo change.

But that’s not true.

I’ve done plenty of changing in my life in a controlled fashion – from changing where I live to changing where I work to changing my hair style.

The more dramatic changes in my life – from softening a hardened heart to developing a new perspective to building new relationships – have not necessarily been my choice.

This makes me think that both “good” and “bad” change can be initiated both internally and externally initiation. For me, this has been an important lesson because it’s all too easy to resist – even to write-off – the lessons that are unasked for.
