Change Brings Chaos

Where routine is absent and fear is present, chaos is present in abundance.

We often think of chaos is complete disruption. But I want to think of chaos as opportunity.

Chaos theory defines chaos as “the science of surprises, of the nonlinear and the unpredictable. It teaches us to expect the unexpected” (source).

Some of its principles include:

  • Small changes can lead to dramatic results
  • The only thing that’s predictable is unpredictability
  • Patterns exist and feel familiar, even though they are complex and never-ending

I mention these to note that chaos isn’t always the terrible thing that we make it out to be. I’m the first to raise my hand as a guilty party in condemning chaos.

Chaos is part of our nature – its familiar despite its unfamiliarity – and it can lead to dramatic results in our life.
