My first “real” boss was Mrs Stilley at the Manhattan Roller Rink. She hired me to work the concession stand, then proceeded to teach me how to work hard and clean properly.
Her saying? If you have time to lean, you have time to clean.
I suppose that saying has stuck with me. With the boot keeping me stuck at home in the morning, rather than out for a run with The Boy, I’ve had time to lean…
So it should come as no surprise that The Boy came home one morning to find me in the middle of scrubbing the bathroom.
He declared my need to fill my time a “sickness.”
I simply told him to blame Mrs. Stilley.
She was certainly an interesting first boss! 🙂
