Their Loss, Our Gain

There’s no doubt that this recession really sucks.

It’s given my industry a pretty good beating, I know a ton of folks without a job, but gosh, I’m really tired of gloom-and-doom attitudes everywhere. And if I see Channel 11’s Survive in 09 promo one.more.time. I think I might scream!

I have to admit that I am somewhat of a survival of the fittest kind of girl. If a retailer can’t compete, then that’s just the way that it is. I confess that I never really knew the strategic difference between Linens N Things and Bed, Bath and Beyond. I loved the Sharper Image catalog but couldn’t understand the Sharper Image store.

Because we’re frugal Hayleys, we also have money in the midst of a recession and we’re doing our darndest to stimulate the economy. We bought a house. Now we’re trying to get the thing to feel a bit more like home.

So what’s the point?

Smith and Hawken produces another fantastic catalog that I love to flip through. Why they thought a nationwide physical store roll-out would be a good idea really beats me. I didn’t even know they were here in Dallas until I drove by a poor sap standing at an intersection with a Smith and Hawken Going Out of Business Sale sign.

That’s when I decided to make my first-ever visit to their store. I found these really cool glazed plant pots on clearance. They were further discounted 50% off the already low clearance price. Sold!

They make the perfect new home for our kitchen bay window plants, right next to Sylvester the Duck.

    those are awesome looking pots!

  2. Pretty green plants too. Do the cats leave them alone?

  3. The cats do leave them alone. They apparently only love flowers and peace lilies.
